Dyslexia Guidelines Study Session

Wednesday, May 9, 4:30-7:00
UC Santa Cruz
Dinner provided
Cost: $40

Please join the CRLP as we explore the recently-developed California Dyslexia Guidelines. Created in collaboration with teachers and experts in the field, these guidelines are designed “to assist regular education teachers, special education teachers, and parents in identifying, assessing, and supporting students with dyslexia” (Torlakson, 2017).
Participants will:
  • Become familiar with the 2017 California Dyslexia Guidelines
  • Learn a 21st century definition of dyslexia
  • Explore the neuroscience of dyslexia
  • Study the signs of dyslexia in children and adolescents
  • Determine ways to support students with dyslexia
The CRLP is able to provide this training at your site during the school day, in the evening, on weekends and in the summer. We can work around your calendar and customize the content and structure to your specific needs. Please contact the director for more information.

2017-2018 CRLP Literacy Leadership Program

Thanks to a generous grant from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm, the CRLP is able to offer a program to support site and district literacy leadership capacity free of charge to the first twenty registrants. A registration fee of $750 will be charged if others would like to attend beyond the 20, but we will cap the attendance at 30 in order to serve the participants in an intimate, supportive environment.

This program is ideal for teachers who would like to strengthen their knowledge of literacy and skill in teaching it and who aspire to take on leadership roles at their site, district or with the California Reading and Literature Project. It begins with an intensive workshop emphasizing content expertise and then will focus on supporting teachers as leaders within their schools and content area. Teachers will have the option to engage in action research and present to their peers in a retreat in May 2018.
